Dartmoor is a National Park with an area of 953 square kilo-meters (368 square miles) in which 57% is open freely for people to explore its wild beauty. There are approximately 720 kilo-metres (about 450 miles) of footpaths and bridleways , which lead the visitor to high, bare, windswept outcrops of granite called tors, swirling rock-strewn rivers and fascinating stone remains left by the people who have lived on Dartmoor for the past 5000 years.
